Here’s How the Country Store Got Started
It was back in 2009 that the Big Bear Country Store was formed by its two managers, David Gurzenski and Alan Lukes. We named it “Big Bear” because that was the small mountain community in Southern California where we resided. The country store offered about 250 products produced by the JR Watkins company. The majority of sales came from public events, such as Big Bear’s weekly Farmers Market. We also added a few local sales consultants who wanted to launch their own part-time, home-based businesses.
It wasn’t long, however, that the store grew beyond Big Bear thanks to a website and Facebook page. These Internet marketing tools expanded the customer base and sales team from coast-to-coast and throughout Canada. That led to the name change to the All Natural Country Store.
It was through this success that we sought another line of quality products to offer to our customers. We wanted a company very much like Watkins that had a long history in this country, during which it had built a solid reputation of offering the best of its kind products. It would be even better if that company began its sales and distribution operations just as Watkins --through a sales force composed of individuals who would go door-to-door promoting their wares.
It was actually at the Big Bear Farmers Market that we would hear time and time again, “We remember our grandparents being visited by the Watkins man, closely followed by the Fuller Brush man, who would bring an assortment of products to our home.” Hence, we found the company that we also wanted to represent.
Now, we offer 250+ Watkins products as well as more than 300 Fuller Brush and Stanley products. How’s that for expansion?!
